In 2021 Oceans Absorbed Heat Equivalent To 7 Atomic Bombs Per Second

In January 2020 we reported the news of ocean warming at a rate of 5 atomic bombs per second. Today, after a year, this number did not decrease, but indeed increased: from five to seven atomic per second in 2021. Scientists have launched a great alarm, who will listen to them this time?

The report in question, published in the journal Advances in Atmospheric Sciences, written by 23 researchers from 14 different institutions, states that the increase in the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere – due to human activities – traps heat within the

Researchers have also explained that over the past year, the 2,000 metres above all oceans have absorbed 14 zettajoules more than in 2020. We are talking about a 145-fold amount of energy generated by electricity in 2020 (all the energy that humans use in a year is equal to half a single zettajoule).

John Abraham, one of the co-authors of the new studio and professor of thermal science at St. Thomas University, published an opinion article on The Guardian in which he claimed that the heat absorbed by the oceans was equivalent to seven Hiroshi atomic bombs

Hotter oceans lead to the creation of more powerful storms and hurricanes, as a warmer and moister atmosphere is created that promotes more intense rainfall during storms. “If you want to know how fast climate change is taking place, the answer is in the oceans,” said Abraham.
