Smartphone And Tablet Rental, The Agcm Fine Samsung In Italy

1 Mins read

Milano Finanza reports that the Italian Competition Authority (AGCM) has sanctioned Samsung Electronics Italia and Personal Renting for the service that allows you to get in mobile and tablet rental. The penalty comes as a result of an investigation closed on December 21, 2022.

The procedure focused on the rental service for a period of 24 months of consumer goods such as tablets and smartphones, and led to a fine of 150 thousand Euro for Samsung and 300 thousand Euro for Personal Renting.

According to the Guarantor, the Korean giant “distributed misleading advertising messages about the offer of the rental service using statements and leaving out some essential information, such as the application of important penalties in the event of damage or loss of the rented equipment”

Personal Renting was contested the aggressive commercial practice, consisting of the application to consumers of “important criminals” when the goods were returned.

The penalty is of small amount as, reports the same AGCM, both Samsung and Personal Renting have adopted a collaborative attitude during the investigation.

However, no comments were received from the two companies. We talked about Samsung’s Smart Rent program on these pages some time ago, at the time of its launch in Italy.
