That’s Who The First Interstellar Astronauts Could Be, But It’s Not How You Imagine It.

1 Mins read

Will humanity ever become an interstellar species? It’s still early to say. However, some scientists are exploring the possibility of the first possible “interstellar travelers.”

Scientists have eyes pointed towards the late degrees, which can be shipped outside our Solar System with heavy spacecraft at most 1 gram and which will be accelerated by powerful lasers at one fifth of light speed. In this way, the brave interstellar travelers will reach Proxima Centauri, the star closest to the Sun, in less than a quarter of a century.

“Most experiments that can be conducted on these animals in the laboratory can be carried out on board the StarChips as they swing through the cosmos,” says the co-author of the study, Professor Joel Rothman of the Santa Barbara UC. The effects of such long journeys on animal biology could be extrapolated to the potential effects on humans (by the way, do you know that a space mission is being planned that will last more than 100 years?).

The document also raises ethical issues. With this mission, one could also run the risk of sending earth’s life to another star system. That way, there’s a risk of contaminating him. However, given the size of the “spaceships,” the latter would burn before reaching the ground.

I mean, let’s think about reaching Mars first, and sending more life out of the Solar System, there’s time.
