1 Mins read

The last few months have been rather troubled by the switch off at DVB-T2, which, as is well known, has been postponed by the Ministry of Economic Development, which has prepared a new calendar for the transition to the MPEG-4 coding system.

We start by saying that the disposal of MPEG-2 codec in favor of MPEG-4 will take place on 15 October 2021.

From 15 November 2021 instead will start the process of refarming, with different dates depending on the geographical areas. This process will end on 30 June 2022, the date on which all television stations must have left the old frequencies. The following calendar:

from 15 November 2021 to 18 December 2021: Area 1A

from 3 January 2022 to 15 March 2022: Area 2

from 1 March 2022 to 15 May 2022: Area 4

from 1 May 2022 to 30 June 2022: Area 1B

As regards the definitive introduction of DVB-T2, however, we will have to wait until January 2023, when the whole process has to be completed. For all information on DVB-T2 decoders to buy, please refer to our in-depth analysis.
